Changes to Customs Procedures in Shipping to the UK
December 4, 2024
ICS2 (Import Control System 2) is a phase of the EU’s safety and security reform involving entry declarations, aimed at strengthening EU border security and collecting information on incoming shipments. With the latest update to the system, there are changes to the customs procedures for shipments from the United Kingdom.
Imports from the United Kingdom
An arrival notification will be introduced as a new, separate declaration from the presentation notification. It will be submitted to the Security Data ICS2 system after the entry summary declaration when the goods arrive by air, sea, and rail transport.
The new entry summary declaration must include more detailed mandatory security data than before. We request that you provide the following information with your transport booking:
- detailed description of goods by commodity (at goods item level)
- commodity code (HS code) of each commodity on an 8-digit level
- the name and complete and accurate address details of the sender and recipient
- the EORI number of the recipient located within the EU
DHL Freight needs complete and accurate information to meet the statutory requirements and deadlines. For further information, please contact DHL Freight Finland customer service.
Exports to the United Kingdom
A similar practice will also come into effect for exports at the end of January 2025. We will inform exporters about this in more detail later when we receive more information on the practical implementation.
