Italy: delays to international road transportation
March 12, 2025
Update 28.3.2025 – Transport trade unions have called for strikes in Italy during week 14. According to current information, rail unions have announced a nationwide industrial action for Monday, March 31, from 4 to 12 p.m. Road transport unions have announced their work stoppage to begin on March 31 and to last until midnight on Friday, April 4. The situation may cause disruptions to road freight to and from Italy.
Update 27.3.2025 – Transportation challenges and train cancellations continue. This week, operations between Rostock and Verona are affected by a bridge damage in Wiederitzsch; according to the railway operator, some scheduled train services have to be canceled in both import and export.
12.3.2025 – Railroad works and line closures in Germany and Austria currently cause train cancellations and congestion of rail terminals. The majority of DHL Freight’s road freight between Finland and Italy travels partly by train; thus the situation is currently causing delays to trailer traffic in both import and export.
We are taking various measures to relieve the situation, such as moving more loads by road and changing the departure terminal in the Continent to a less congested rail terminal in export to Italy, depending on the situation at hand.
We are sorry about potential delays. You can track your shipments at our website or contact DHL Freight Finland customer service for further information.
