Surcharges for Freight Shipping
Changes in fuel prices have resulted in increased overall costs for the transport industry, necessitating the introduction of a variable fuel surcharge which may rise, fall or be removed to align with movements in fuel prices.
Fuel Surcharge
As a result of an ongoing Class Action Suit in the U.S.A., airlines who had previously published a Jet Fuel Index have now removed these from their websites. As a consequence, DHL Global Forwarding has also ceased to publish a Jet Fuel Index.
If you require guidance on fuel price development, an independent indicator can be found on the IATA website
Security Surcharges
After the terrorist attacks of September 11 2001, all carriers had to increase their security measures tremendously, also for air freight transportation. To cover these and their heavily increased insurance costs, they implemented the Security Surcharge (SSC). DHL Global Forwarding must collect this for the carriers without adding any profit margin; this is a pass-through cost only.
