EV Centers of Excellence: Driving the evolution of electric vehicles

Electrification is a key step on the road to greener transport and mobility. But the value chain for electric vehicles comes with new and unique challenges. DHL’s global network of Centers of Excellence for EV logistics gives customers the tools to succeed in this dynamic market.

New value chains require new logistics

Electric vehicles (EVs) are gaining market share by leaps and bounds. Electromobility is not only an unstoppable global phenomenon, it is urgently needed to bring about cleaner mobility. The United Nations estimates that the transport sector accounts for some 25% of energy-related greenhouse gas emissions, and achieving international environmental targets means driving down these emissions by some 3% annually.

Increasingly electrified auto-mobility plugged into green electrical grids is critical to achieving this bold vision.

But EV supply chains are fundamentally different than those of traditional automotive manufacturing, involving regions not typically integrated into automotive supply chains. What’s more, EV batteries are classified as dangerous goods when shipped.

It takes an entire coordinated ecosystem to support the growth of EV manufacturers. That’s why we have established a global network of Centers of Excellence (CoE) to benefit all players in the EV market across the entire value chain.

EV Centers of Excellence: A global network

Each CoE is home to a globally connected team of auto-mobility experts ready to deliver the kind of services that EV manufacturers need:

  • End-to-end enablement: From transporting EV components to aftersales support and battery reverse logistics, DHL has the infrastructure and expertise to deliver fully modular end-to-end logistics solutions for the auto-mobility sector.
  • Battery logistics: We have a proven track record in the end-to-end transport of lithium-ion EV batteries, from manufacturing and aftersales to recycling and disposal – all in compliance with sensitive environmental and safety regulations.
  • Component logistics: Our global leverage makes us uniquely positioned to help transport EV components and materials enabling a reliable, resilient, cost-efficient, high-performance supply chain.
  • Safety management and compliance: We help our customers navigate the complex web of safety regulations around EVs, and our expertise in shipment tracking and supply chain visibility gives you a logistics network you can depend on.
  • Warehousing: Our advanced warehousing solutions offer smart automation, monitoring, and optimization with a focus on safety and sustainability – storage strategies designed specifically for EV supply chains.

Empowering the EV circular economy

DHL’s EV CoEs offer customers a cost-effective alternative to owning and operating their own specialized warehouses. Our centers are close to the market thus enabling a time efficient aftermarket service and reduce carbon emissions. They also support sustainability and empower the EV circular economy by facilitating battery storage, recycling, repair, and end-of-life processing.
