Circular Supply Chains

Packaging represents more than 40% of the world’s plastic usage, yet 84% of this is not yet recycled.

As consumers, we insist on more environmentally sustainable products and services, putting pressure on manufacturers and companies to create and operate greener supply chains. Many businesses have even taken initiative and set their own targets on sustainability, eager to contribute their share to climate efforts. Still, while cutting carbon emissions is one thing, there needs to be a switch from linear to circular supply chains, meaning instead of discarding materials and assets after delivery, everything should be reused, repaired, refurbished, recycled and/or repurposed.

To close the loop, ‘reverse logistics operations’ are needed, like shipping back reusable cardboard and plastic packaging, and innovative thinking can help. More sustainable materials in facilities and operations are being explored by logistics service providers, while wasteful habits, like using single-use pallet wraps, are being detected and phased out.

Sustainable should also be easy and affordable, so…

We Wonder...

Which solutions can help close the loop and boost the reduction and reuse of materials and assets through the identification and coordination of shipping channels across companies, sectors, and industries?

Are there viable alternatives to traditional steel, concrete, cladding, insulation, and other building materials that offer comparable functionality in logistics facilities yet deliver sustainability and potential for circularity?

As the volume of electronics increases in the supply chain, how can we cut e-waste and increase the reuse of devices such as sensors that track and monitor shipments?
