DHL EXPRESS JAPAN NAMES TONY KHAN AS PRESIDENT AND REPRESENTATIVE DIRECTOR

DHL Express, the world’s leading international express service provider, has named Tony Khan as President and Representative Director, DHL Express Japan effective January 1, 2020. With the appointment, Khan becomes a member of the management board of DHL Express Asia Pacific.
Khan takes the helm of the DHL Express Japan business with a stellar track record of over 17 years in Operations and General Management. Prior to this latest appointment, Khan served as the General Manager of the Central Asia Hub (CAH) in Hong Kong, one of the three global hubs in DHL Express’ network. CAH handles more than 40% of the company’s total Asia Pacific shipment volumes. In that role, Khan oversaw the hub’s management and overall operations which included its expansion of capabilities, connectivity within the global network, cost control, as well as transit time performance. Khan has been involved in the air express industry since 1988, and possesses exceptional knowledge of the air express industry and deep familiarity with Asian markets.
Khan’s latest appointment marks his return to Japan to lead the business. He served in operations in Japan for over 10 years and was the Vice President of Operations for DHL Express Japan, responsible for managing and overseeing all operational activity across the country. He also played an instrumental role in the development of Kansai Gateway (KIX) and the launch of Nagoya Gateway (NGO). DHL is the only international express company that has three Gateways in Japan, providing strong operational advantages and best-in-class service throughout the country.

Khan was born in Pakistan in May 1965 and he is fluent in Japanese, Mandarin, Urdu and English. He graduated from the University of Karachi with a degree in Economics in 1987. Khan succeeds Taketo Yamakawa, who entered into a well-deserved retirement on December 31, 2019.
