DHL SUPPLY CHAIN IS ENTRUSTED BY PATAGONIA WITH LOGISTICS OPERATIONS AND PROVIDES SUSTAINABILITY-FOCUSED SOLUTIONS

Press Release: Tokyo, April 14th, 2022

DHL Supply Chain Japan combines its fashion logistics expertise with new sustainable initiatives and value to help Patagonia optimize the business.

DHL Supply Chain, the global leader in contract logistics, has been entrusted with logistics operations by Patagonia International Inc., Japan Branch, a global outdoor apparel brand from California, the United States, and a global pioneer in style, functionality, with a serious commitment to sustainability. DHL has opened a new warehouse, Inzai Logistics Center West, in Chiba Prefecture for this operation.

Inzai Logistics Center West is located in a state-of-the-art warehouse facility featuring green solutions to reduce carbon emissions and amenities to boost employee welfare. Its proximity to DHL’s Inzai Logistics Center, which opened in 2019, enables a campus concept providing flexibility to respond to business growth and volume fluctuations.

The warehouse is fitted with rooftop solar panels that currently power around two thirds of the energy consumption of the warehouse operation. DHL Supply Chain is exploring the change to alternative energy sources within the next one year, with a goal to transit to a carbon-neutral warehouse using only renewable energy.

Reducing packaging waste is another key area at this facility. Efforts include reusing cartons, recycling used plastic shrink wraps into new wraps through a recycling vendor, and using paper tapes with starch glue for packing instead of labels to minimize plastic waste and ensure that paper packages can be recycled.

Employees can also participate in meaningful activities such as volunteering for projects on local community engagement and environmental protection through the Sustainability Center, which promotes employee understanding and participation in ESG topics.

Jérôme Gillet, President & Representative Director, CEO Japan and Korea, DHL Supply Chain said, “DHL Supply Chain has already been providing logistics services to Patagonia in the United States since 2018 and is highly recognized as a strategic partner. It is a great honor to deliver value by deploying the best practice from overseas and demonstrating our local capability in Japan. With DHL Supply Chain seeking to become a global leader in realizing a sustainable future for everyone, and Patagonia’s longstanding commitment to environmental protection, I am confident that we can become a role model for the logistics industry.”

Marty Pomphrey, General Manager of Patagonia International Inc., Japan Branch said, “Our mission statement is “We're In Business To Save Our Home Planet”. What we expect of our logistics partner is not only support of our business growth but also a commitment to driving transformation of the logistics industry. We chose DHL because of their logistics capability and flexibility to support increasingly divesere customer needs in an optimized manner, ability to provide new solutions and value to address environmental impact, and in-depth understanding of these two as well as the company-level commitment to concrete actions.”
