DHL Express to Provide Free Greenhouse Gas Emissions Data to All Customers in Japan Through Visualized Report

Press Release: Tokyo, August 6, 2024

  • New “GHG Emissions Report” calculates Scope 3 emissions for all account holders customers
  • It enables them to have visibility and accountability of their actual carbon emissions and contribute to their decarbonization efforts

DHL Express has launched a new free-of-charge “GHG Emissions Report” for all of its customers in Japan. All DHL account holders can receive a visualized report of their actual Scope 3 GHG emissions associated with their international shipping activities with DHL.  With the report, they can determine sustainable reduction targets and improvement actions. Customers can obtain detailed carbon emissions data from total annual shipment volume or per shipment, as well as emissions recorded over time, by sector, mode of transport, and destination country.  For detail, please see here: https://www.dhl.com/discover/en-jp/info/gogreen-dashboard

There is global corporate and societal interest in reducing greenhouse gas emissions to achieve a decarbonized society. In Japan, companies are similarly disclosing their carbon emissions data generated from their shipping activities.

DHL Express believes that understanding one's own carbon emissions is an important step in reducing GHG emissions. The verification of GHG emissions is conducted and certified by Société Générale de Surveillance, a third-party organization. In the near future, DHL Express plans to launch a self-service portal, allowing customers to view their GHG emissions online whenever needed. The portal will also enable DHL’s GoGreen Plus users to view their GHG emissions reduction from using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

Tony Khan, President and Representative Director of DHL Express Japan said, “Reducing greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate change is a pressing issue that needs to be addressed worldwide. Japan is no exception. We are very pleased to offer our Japanese customers the “GHG Emissions Report”, following the launch of our GoGreen Plus service last year, as we strive to achieve decarbonization.”

DHL Express is committed to Mission 2050, which aims to achieve net-zero logistics-related emissions by 2050. In addition to promoting the electrification of pick-up and delivery vehicles worldwide, the use of SAF in air transportation, and carbon-neutral designed facilities, DHL Express introduced GoGreen Plus in 2023. GoGreen Plus is an international shipping service that enables customers to reduce their Scope 3 GHG emissions footprint using SAF. In Japan, approximately 4,000 customers have onboarded the GoGreen Plus service.
