Press Release: Seoul, South Korea, April 27, 2023

- New Gangseo Service Center is thrice the size of the former Gangbuk Service Center
- Improved throughput to meet the anticipated volume growth for the next 10 years
- The former Gangbuk Service Center continues to serve customers as a DHL Seoul-ro service point
- The new facility features a full drive-in system that enables the simultaneous loading and unloading of 60 vehicles
DHL Express, the world’s leading international express service provider, has announced the opening of the Gangseo Service Center in Gimpo, Gyeonggi-do of Seoul. Largest in South Korea, this facility replaces the smaller Gangbuk Service Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, which will continue serving customers as a DHL Seoul-ro service point. The Gangseo Service Center aims to reinforce the logistics network in downtown and northwestern Seoul, following a growth in demand for international express shipments.
With a floor space of 5,443 m2, the new Gangseo Service Center is approximately thrice the size of the Gangbuk Service Center (1,842 m2), making it the largest DHL service center in South Korea. The new facility features a full drive-in system that enables the simultaneous loading and unloading of up to 60 vehicles. It can also accommodate 8-ton trucks indoors. In addition, the facility is built with climate change in mind. It houses eight electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, one electric forklift, five electric delivery trucks, and is powered by LED lights. In addition, an AI-powered small parcel sorting robot, which was previously operating in the Gangbuk Service Center, had also moved to the Gangseo Service Center.
Byung Koo Han, Country Manager of DHL Express Korea, said, “Considering the rapidly growing global express service demand in the central business district of Seoul, we have decided to expand and relocate our long-standing Gangbuk Service Center to the Gangseo area. This move will allow us to further improve the workspace layout and significantly increase productivity as the new facility can handle shipment growth up to 2032. This provides customers with improved international express services.”
The decision to expand and relocate the service center was to meet the growing demand for international express services in Seoul's central and northwestern areas and enhance customer service. The new location was named the Gangseo Service Center, but the service area and service hours will remain the same as before.
Gangseo Service Center handles the largest quantity of documents and small parcels among DHL service centers in Korea. It covers the main commercial districts in Seoul, such as Jung-gu, Jongno-gu, Mapo-gu, Yongsan-gu, Seodaemun-gu, Eunpyeong-gu, and Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu. The center handles import and export documents for banks and accounting firms, and provides logistics services for clothing, textile, auto parts suppliers, etc.
The DHL Gangseo Service Center is situated within 1 km from Incheon International Airport Expressway (Gimpo Airport IC) and the Capital Area Ring Expressway (Gimpo IC), and is approximately 40 minutes away from DHL’s Incheon Gateway. Therefore, the newly opened center is expected to improve the connectivity of international express services significantly. In addition, with Gimpo Service Center, it will provide nearby companies with more convenient access to import and export logistics services.
As DHL Express delivers time- and temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals to Seoul National University Hospital and Severance Hospital, the Gangseo Service Center will also enable DHL Medical Express Service to provide even more reliable deliveries. In addition, DHL Express plans to introduce 12 additional EVs and install five more EV charging stations at the Gangseo Service Center this year to continue expanding its sustainable logistics services.
