Press Release: Seoul, South Korea, June 3, 2024

  • Approximately 890 DHL Express Korea employees and their family members volunteered for various activities on ‘DHL Global Volunteer Day 2024’
  • Employees carried out various sustainability-related activities to commemorate World Environment Day

Approximately 890 DHL Express employees and their family members have volunteered for various activities in 25 regions across the country on ‘DHL Global Volunteer Day 2024’. Focused on sustainability, this year’s DHL Global Volunteer Day saw volunteers participate in area clean-ups, cleaning of cultural heritage buildings, and providing help at elderly care centers.

Launched in 2008, Global Volunteer Day is a global initiative by DHL Group to positively contribute to the local communities and instill the spirit of volunteerism in employees.

DHL Express Korea employees in Seoul volunteered at prominent cultural properties of Korea, including the royal palace Changdeokgung and Jongmyo Shrine. They removed weeds, cleaned the interiors of old buildings, and environmental cleaning (plogging) along trails, while taking time to reflect on the significance of cultural heritage and communal values. Employees from other offices also helped to clean Incheon International Airport Air Cargo Terminal, Gyeongin Port, Gimpo Logistics Complex, Anyang Art Park, Busan Senior Care Center, and Taehwagang River in Ulsan.

Jihun Han, Managing Director of DHL Express Korea, said, “Global Volunteer Day is special to us. While volunteering should not be limited to only once a year, we are glad that we have continued to spend some time together to volunteer and raise awareness of corporate social responsibility, especially on World Environment Day. We will continue to drive more sustainable programs to deliver a positive social impact to the communities we live and spread a communal value of volunteering.”

The purpose of DHL Group is to connect people and improve lives. Annually, on Global Volunteer Day, DHL employees worldwide conduct enterprise-wide volunteering activities. In 2023, approximately 105,000 DHL employees voluntarily devoted more than 300,000 hours in about 6,000 volunteering projects. Last year, DHL Express Korea organized activities in-person for the first time since the pandemic. Its employees and their family members participated in area clean-ups in various locations including Banpo Hangang Park, Ttukseom Hangang Park as well as Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung Palaces.
