DHL Express Korea Helps Logistics Company LX Pantos Reduce Carbon Emissions Through Sustainable Aviation Fuel
Press Release: Seoul, South Korea, April 5, 2024
- LX Pantos has signed up for DHL’s GoGreen Plus service as a show of its commitment to combat climate change within its own value chain
- Sustainable aviation fuel cuts emissions by around80 percent compared to conventional jet fuel
DHL Express, the world’s leading international express service provider, has partnered with LX Pantos, a leading total logistics company in Korea, to help them reduce carbon emissions associated with their international shipments through the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) via the DHL GoGreen Plus service.
GoGreen Plus is a service on MyDHL+, the company’s online shipping and tracking platform, where customers can opt to reduce carbon emissions through ‘insetting’ by using SAF. Following the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) philosophy, GoGreen Plus enables customers to reduce their Scope 3 emissions, which are the indirect greenhouse gas emissions in the value chain, including downstream transportation and distribution.
With the partnership, LX Pantos can cut carbon emissions associated with all international express packages based on its sustainability goal. SAF can provide carbon emission reductions of up to 80% over its lifecycle from production to use compared with the conventional jet fuel it replaces. LX Pantos will receive an annual report of the amount of reduced carbon emissions they achieved in the previous year as well as a certification issued by Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS), which can be utilized for a carbon reporting.
LX Pantos strives to systematically practise sustainable business activities. Last November, LX Pantos signed up for the United National Global Compact (UNGC), the world’s largest enterprise sustainability initiative, which was joined by approximately 23,000 companies from 167 countries worldwide. LX Pantos has also partnered with the largest airline in Korea to scale the use of SAF. Signing up for DHL’s GoGreen Plus service further underscores its commitment tof climate protection.
Jihun (Michael) Han, Managing Director of DHL Express Korea, said, “Sustainability is an essential part of how we do business. We are pleased to provide a feasible solution that can help our customers implement environmentally friendly activities and reduce their carbon emissions. As the first among global express carriers that introduced low-emission transport service by using sustainable aviation fuel, we remain committed to supporting more companies in Korea to participate in cutting emissions and fulfilling their responsibilities to protect the environment.”
As of now, over 12,000 customers in the Asia Pacific region (excluding China) have signed up for the GoGreen Plus service. In Korea, more than 1,700 customers have used the service since its launch in June last year.
DHL Group aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 and is investing into sustainable fuels and technologies. This includes two of the largest ever deals with bp and Neste, who will supply DHL with more than 800 million liters of sustainable aviation fuel until 2026. Furthermore, it has also signed a long-term strategic agreement with World Energy, a leading SAF producer, to purchase approximately 668 million liters of SAF via sustainable aviation fuel certificates over seven-year period until 2030. This contributes to the interim target of using 30 percent of SAF for all air transport by 2030.
