DHL EXPRESS, SHELL FLEET SOLUTIONS EMBARK ON INITIATIVES TO REDUCE EMISSIONS

Press Release: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 29 March 2023

DHL Express, the world’s leading express logistics provider, has entered into a strategic partnership with Shell Fleet Solutions, the business  mobility division of Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn. Bhd. to support its sustainability journey in reducing fleet-related emissions.

DHL Express has signed up with Shell Fleet Solutions’ Accelerate to Zero (A2Z) programme, which helps fleet customers chart their decarbonisation course to net-zero emissions by leveraging Shell’s full range of consultancy services and innovative solutions.

The two companies have collaborated for more than 30 years in various aspects of DHL’s operations. They are now leveraging their knowledge, expertise and global infrastructure to support sustainable business growth through fleet decarbonisation and improving safety standards around electrification solutions. The agreement further provides a framework to explore cooperation in other climate-neutral initiatives.

In the area of commercial vehicle electrification, DHL Express has pioneered this journey in Malaysia with Shell Recharge Solutions to develop fleet EV charging infrastructure. This solution comprises both hardware and software management that utilises Shell SKY, an end-to-end smart EV charging solution software. DHL Express’ fleet operations now benefits from on-site charging infrastructure at their depots and warehouses, on-the-go payment services through the Shell Card, and convenience retailing privileges when fast charging at Shell stations.

Joanna Lean, General Manager, Shell Fleet Solutions Malaysia said, “Our intent is to support fleets in Malaysia in the shift towards decarbonisation as they face the challenges of balancing costs and the need to adopt lower carbon mobility solutions.

“As one of the largest players in the business mobility space, our A2Z programme helps build a clear pathway to net-zero emissions for fleets. It brings together a mix of solutions including innovative Shell Fuels, Shell Recharge Solutions, Shell Telematics and Shell Nature-based Solutions. To tackle one of the greatest challenges that fleets face in this decade, we cannot do this alone. We must collaborate with like-minded partners, and we are honoured to partner with DHL Express in Malaysia towards more sustainable business growth.”

Managing Director of DHL Express Malaysia and Brunei, Julian Neo, said that the company targets to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

“As a leading international express service provider, it is our responsibility to drive the sustainable transformation of our industry. Alternative drives and fuels as well as clean energy solutions are important areas to achieve this goal. We are proud to partner Shell as we work even closer together on our decarbonisation journey. Through the A2Z programme, we can further reduce the environmental impact of our delivery fleet and transition to more climate-neutral operations,” he said.
