FURTHER INVESTMENT DHL-CAMPUS IN WEERT

Press Release: Eindhoven, May 25th 2022

DHL Supply Chain doubles its presence at the Kampershoek 2.0 business park in Weert. The new part will be placed adjacent to the current distribution center that opened its doors at the end of 2021. To this end, alderman Wendy van Eijck drove the first pile into the soil in the presence of DHL Supply Chain and high-tech company ASML. The expansion of the distribution center will become a new European hub for ASML, based in Veldhoven, for which DHL has been providing storage and distribution for some time. The logistics needs keep pace with the global growth of the high-tech company. The current part, which opened a few months ago, can accommodate various customers and ASML is already using part of this warehouse. Work has started on the construction site and the new building will be completed in March 2023. The commissioning is planned for the start of the summer, in exactly one year. The DHL campus will then employ 150 people from the region.

Sustainable distribution center

This extension will also be built according to the BREEAM Excellent sustainability standard, which will turns these premises into the most environmentally friendly warehouse of DHL Supply Chain in the Netherlands. The second warehouse will measure more than 45,000 m2; around 9 football fields, which can bear up to 5,000 kg per square meter. The mezzanine in the warehouse, almost 4 football fields in size, can carry up to 1000 kg per square meter. The warehouse is therefore very suitable for the storage of heavy products. These 13 football fields of space will become a workplace where healthy and safe working is key. Natural light and robotics for indoor transport are a good example of this. The office area, which covers 2,100 square meters, will be furnished according to the WELL Core Gold standard. Efficient energy consumption is paramount in the construction and operation of the distribution center. Solar panels on the roof will cover energy needs, the building will be all electric and insulated, smart meters and motion sensors will minimize the consumption of energy-efficient LED lighting.
