DHL EXPRESS WELCOMES THE BANK OF THE PHILIPPINE ISLANDS IN FLYER RECYCLING PROGRAM
Press Release: Manila, September 30, 2023
BPI becomes the first bank in the Philippines to join DHL Express GoGreen Flyer Recycle Box Program, amplifying its local environmental impact
DHL Express and the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) have embarked on a pioneering partnership to promote sustainability. BPI is the first bank in the Philippines to join forces with DHL Express in the GoGreen Flyer Recycle Box Program. As DHL Express aims to reduce its carbon footprint in its logistics operations, the partnership with BPI means that both companies can do more for the environment together.
Driving sustainability hand in hand
The DHL Express GoGreen Flyer Recycle Box Program encourages customers to collect and store used DHL flyers. These flyers are given a new purpose in DHL Express' EcoBrick Projects. By cleaning and drying the used flyers, the flyers are compressed into plastic bottles and then transformed into reusable building blocks, thus creating EcoBricks. These EcoBricks are then generously donated to selected beneficiaries.
Nigel Lockett, DHL Express Philippines Country Manager, says, "The GoGreen Flyer Recycle Box Program embodies our goal to protect the environment. Our Mission 2050, aiming for net-zero emissions, signifies our commitment to find ways to build cleaner logistics operations. BPI's dedicated partnership is a vital piece of the puzzle in turning this vision into a concrete reality, and we look forward to collaborating with more customers."
Eric Luchangco, BPI's Chief Sustainability Officer and Chief Finance Officer, underscores the significance of this partnership: “Working with DHL Express to recover flyers from the documents they send us not only reduces plastic waste but also promotes responsible plastic usage. BPI and DHL Express share a common mission to promote sustainability within our organizations. This program reinforces our commitment to sustainability and underscores the lasting, positive impact we aim to create for both the environment and the communities we serve. "BPI is dedicated to environmental preservation throughout its operations. To support the DHL GoGreen Flyer Recycle Box Program, BPI has initiated flyer collection at its Buendia office, with plans to establish another recycle box at the BPI Binondo office.
The program at these two sites alone is projected to reduce an average of 60kg of carbon dioxide emissions per month, based on inbound document volumes. This collaborative effort aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 13, which addresses climate action, and SDG 17, that emphasizes on partnerships to achieve sustainable goals.
DHL Express plays a pivotal role in supporting BPI’s business operations and is the primary courier for the bank's inbound shipping documents.
