CONSTRUCTION OF THE ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY DHL SUPPLY CHAIN DISTRIBUTION CENTER FOR THE E-COMMERCE INDUSTRY IN GORZÓW WIELKOPOLSKI

Press Release: August 18, Gorzów Wielkopolski

DHL Supply Chain, a global leader in logistics and supply chain management, has begun the construction of a state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly logistics facility in Gorzów Wielkopolski with a planned total area of 110,000 m2.

On August 18, representatives of the DHL Supply Chain investor and local authorities signed the foundation act and laid the cornerstone for the new logistics investment at Mosiężna Street. The symbolic inauguration of the construction of the DSC E-com Distribution Center was also attended by representatives of the Gorzów Wielkopolski authorities, including Mayor Jacek Piotr Wójcicki, and local government officials.

- The construction of the DHL Supply Chain logistics center in the capital of the Lubuskie Voivodeship is an important step in the company's development strategy in Central Europe. We chose this place for our investment because Gorzów Wielkopolski is located in an ideal place for our logistics chain, connecting the east with the west (via the nearby A2 highway) and the north with the south (via the S3 expressway) not only in terms of Poland but also of this region of Europe. An additional advantage is a well-developed labour market and a skilled workforce, which is the legacy of the city's rich industrial history. Another important asset is the excellent cooperation with the local city government, which ensures the speed and flexibility necessary in today's business. I am convinced that this is not the last investment of DHL Supply Chain in Gorzów, which I sincerely wish to the residents, the local authorities, and the Polish branch of DHL Supply Chain," said Tomasz Kocik, Vice President Finance of DHL Supply Chain in Central and Eastern Europe.

The construction of the facility in Gorzów Wielkopolski will ensure further expansion of DHL Supply Chain along Poland's western border. The construction of the DSC E-com Distribution Center is DHL Supply Chain's response to the increasing demand of the e-commerce market, which has been growing at a record double-digit rate for several years. The COVID-19 pandemic has further demonstrated the importance of e-commerce in the economy, the role it plays in society, and its growth potential. In addition to offering e-commerce services to the big players, DHL Supply Chain meets customer expectations and supports small and medium-sized companies in handling an increasing number of orders and scaling their operations by offering its European EFN network, which enables companies to grow dynamically and benefit from over 30 locations in Europe. A significant advantage of the investment is its location – close to the rapidly growing economic center that is Gorzów Wielkopolski, on the S3 road, on the way from Szczecin to the A2 highway, and less than an hour from the German border. Thanks to this location, DHL Supply Chain will enable its customers to service the markets of Western Europe even faster.

9 months of construction works

Construction of the facility, which will occupy 110,000 m2 and will be the second largest of its kind in Gorzów Wielkopolski, is expected to last until the beginning of 2023. Several hundred people will find work at the newest DHL Supply Chain complex. In accordance with the company's standards, the facility will undergo a certification process and will operate according to the BREEAM system at the Excellent level. From the very start of construction works, electricity consumption is being minimized through the use of numerous solutions such as sub-metering systems and skylights, and solutions to reduce water consumption and light management are being implemented. Special places for charging electric cars are also planned at the investment site, and the outdoor areas will be developed into green areas.

As the world's leading logistics company, DHL Supply Chain is a leader in sustainability, which involves reducing the carbon footprint and setting the highest standards in social and governance issues. Over the years, our company has repeatedly made groundbreaking changes in the logistics sector, from introducing the first green logistics product to becoming the first logistics company to commit to achieving zero emissions by 2050.
