DHL ADDS NEW $1.6 MILLION INDIANAPOLIS FACILITY TO LIFE SCIENCES AND HEALTHCARE NETWORK IN THE UNITED STATES

DHL Global Forwarding, the air and ocean freight specialist within Deutsche Post DHL, announced its new $1.6 million facility in Indianapolis, Indiana. The building has 20,000 square-feet of dedicated perishable handling warehouse space. It is strategically located to service the Midwest, Northeast, South and Southeast regions of the United States. It includes a bonded warehouse and it part of the DHL Global Forwarding Free Trade Zone footprint.

The building is a bonded Container Freight Station (CFS), a location designated by carriers to receive cargo to be loaded into containers. The building contains three temperature controlled chambers 15-25C storage and handling. 2-8C storage and handling and -20C storage and handling) that together measure close to 20,000 square-feet, built with variable temperature capabilities to process any pharmaceutical, biotech or medical devices that require a temperature-controlled environment. The new facility in Indianapolis will be added to the list of established Certified Life Sciences Stations to support DHL’s THERMONET solution for temperature controlled air freight transportation. After completing the certification, the new facility will become one of eight Certified Life Sciences Stations in the U.S. completed thus far, with specific storage capabilities dedicated for life science and healthcare goods. THERMONET provides enhanced monitoring and visibility for life science and healthcare products using solutions such as the “Life Track” IT platform and in-transit temperature data and monitoring.
In addition to the new facility, DHL Global Forwarding is planning a new Life Sciences and Healthcare Freighter service from EMEA and Indianapolis. The new freighter tailors an “End-to-End” service from the time a shipment is accepted at the customer’s warehouse to the destination hub with inland-haulage to the Indianapolis facility for storage and final distribution. The new freighter will be implemented due to customer demand and need, and will provide a new scalable solution to ensure perishable shipments are handled with the highest quality standards and delivered with fast transit times.
The facility/ certifications will also include Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT), ISO 9001, and ISO 22301 (BCM). The building is a GDP compliant handling and facility operations and all staff are Dangerous Goods Certified Personnel.
