DHL SUPPLY CHAIN ACTIVATES 936 DC KILOWATT SOLAR PANEL SYSTEM ON LIVERMORE, CA WAREHOUSE FACILITY

Press Release: Westerville, OH, Oct. 25, 2021

  • 2200+ solar panels installed on 382,000-square-foot warehouse facility
  • The solar array will offset 74% of building’s annual electric load

DHL Supply Chain, the global and North American contract logistics leader within Deutsche Post DHL Group, has entered into a power purchase agreement to buy all of the electricity generated from the rooftop solar array on its latest Livermore, CA warehouse (1201 Voyager St.) investment. The facility’s rooftop features more than 2,200 solar modules/panels that are expected to generate more than 1,500,000 kWh (~224 average California households) for the facility in the first year alone.

“As the world’s leading logistics company, sustainability is a driving force at DHL Supply Chain and we are continually evaluating and implementing strategies to reduce our environmental impact,” said Doug Evans, Senior Director of Operations, Technology, DHL Supply Chain. “Our new solar panel array will benefit both the environment and our bottom line while enabling us to more efficiently serve our valued customer.”

The solar power system will offset the 382,000-square-foot facility’s electricity consumption by approximately 74 percent with an immediate cost savings to our customer exceeding 25 percent in year one of operation.

This investment comes after Deutsche Post DHL Group revealed its updated Sustainability Roadmap (Sustainability Roadmap 2030) earlier this year committing $7B Euro over the next 10 years in clean operations and climate-neutral logistics solutions. Using the money to electrify 60 percent of its last-mile fleet by 2030, it will put more than 80,000 e-vehicles in service on the road. Furthermore, all its new buildings will be designed to be carbon neutral, and it plans to offer green alternatives for all core products and solutions.
