DHL SUPPLY CHAIN REDUCES EMISSIONS FROM TRANSPORT BY SOLAR MATS ON TRUCKS

Press Release: November 19, 2020

  • A total of seven trucks with solar mats will be operated mainly in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria
  • TRAILAR’s Solar Transport Solutions reduce CO2 emissions by more than 5 percent.
  • As part of the Go-Green strategy, TRAILAR's innovative solutions contribute to the realization of the "zero emissions" target by 2050

DHL Supply Chain relies on sustainable mobility in its fleet. The next step on the road to zero emissions is the installation of the innovative and award winning TRAILAR solution on the roofs of seven medium-sized distribution trucks. DHL Supply Chain will operate these vehicles not only on Czech roads, but also in Slovakia and Austria.

"True to our 2050 strategy “zero emissions”, our Czech Republic team have once again deployed Go-Green technology to their fleet partnering with TRAILAR,” says Warren Bodley, Transport Director & Eastern Europe DHL Supply Chain. "I am really proud of our teams contribution to reduce air pollution, thereby making a greener and safer environment for everyone, this also bringing our clients sustainable solutions. I look forward to the future, delivering Green initiatives from DHL Transport and TRAILAR.

DHL Supply Chain will have a total of seven alternative fuel trucks in its fleet in the Czech Republic, equipped with the innovative TRAILAR solar technology, which will reduce CO2 emissions by 4.5 tons per year for each vehicle but also reduce fuel and maintenance costs. The TRAILAR  system generates electricity from sunlight or natural light. It is used to charge the vehicle battery and power ancillary equipment on that vehicle. This reduces the load on the alternator and, as a result, fuel consumption. In addition to lower emissions, lower operating costs are therefore also a welcome benefit. The state-of-the-art telematics system verifies the savings, providing detailed information on the efficiency of the entire system. The first six vehicles with the TRAILAR solutions have been in operation since September 2020, the seventh vehicle will be included in the DHL Supply Chain fleet in the Czech Republic in December 2020.

TRAILAR is a subsidiary of the Deutsche Post DHL Group, which increases the economy of conventional commercial vehicles by installing solar mats on their roofs. At the beginning of this success story was aDHL Supply Chain project, that was then succesful in Start-up Lab. As a company, TRAILAR was founded in 2018 by Co-founders Aaron Thomas & Denny Hulme. Since then, TRAILAR solutions have been implemented for a variety of vehicles in the fleets of DHL and other clients on five continents.
