Music. Simply delivered. - A musical road trip
One truck, ten musicians, three days, ten concerts and people dancing on the streets: at the beginning of September, our DHL music truck toured Leipzig and northern Saxony with the world-famous Gewandhausorchester, delivering music to unusual locations.
From 9 until 11 September, our DHL team and the Gewandhausorchester delivered ten very special musical surprises in Leipzig and northern Saxony. A DHL truck converted into a mobile stage stopped in front of the Monument of the Battle of the Nations Leipzig, at Augustus square and at the St. Georg Hospital Leipzig to surprise the people in the region with concerts. “This initiative built on our joint project from spring and summer 2021, when we joined with Gewandhausorchester musicians to give a small musical gift to listeners in several retirement homes and refugee centers” explains Ralph Wondrak, Managing Director of DHL Hub Leipzig.
The ten concerts were a musical and logistical masterpiece. Only 30 minutes after the DHL music truck arrived, our DHL team had set up the stage, unloaded the equipment and provided music stands and instruments. Then the music professionals from the Gewandhausorchester took over and delighted the audience with “Puttin 'on the Ritz” by Irving Berlin or “Arrival of the Queen of Sheba” by Georg Friedrich Händel. After a 20-minute concert, enthusiastic applause and at least one encore, the crew went straight to the next location. An unforgettable experience for the audience, our DHL roadies and the musicians.
This was also confirmed by David Cribb from the orchestra: “Both kids and adults were dancing on the street. It was wonderful to see how much joy our concerts brought to people. Performing in a park or on a lake is very different from playing in a concert hall. You’re closer to the audience and can really feel peoples’ joy, surprise and enthusiasm. It was a great musical road trip."
