WE’RE SAYING “THANK YOU, LEIPZIG!”
It is a Central German success story that we celebrated in autumn 2018 marking the tenth anniversary of DHL Hub Leipzig. One decade ago the global company DHL opened its European air freight hub at Leipzig/Halle Airport. We are the largest of the three global hubs in the DHL Express network. More than 5,700 people work at the Leipzig site. Some 350,000 shipments are sorted here every night before being flown to their destinations in more than 220 countries and regions all over the world. We are proud of this success and used this occasion to say thank you – not only to our partners but most importantly to all our employees and the people of the Leipzig region.
To kick off our anniversary weekend at the beginning of September, we threw open the gates of the BELANTIS theme park for our employees, their families and friends. In a huge celebration that lasted for a whole day, we explored the park together, enjoyed the amusement rides, marveled at the shows and performers and danced to fantastic music into the night. ’It was great just to relax and spend time with colleagues, friends and family,’ said Lea Peters, trainee at the DHL Hub Leipzig. The music of the German star Christina Stürmer not only created a great atmosphere, she also took time to sign autographs and pose for photos.
The players of the SC DHfK Leipzig premier league handball team also accepted our invitation to the event at BELANTIS, where they answered questions and chatted with fans. “That was the highlight of the day for me. I’m a huge fan of the team,” said Jens Makswitat, a security colleague.
In the evening, people from all over Central Germany enjoyed a gala concert of the Gewandhausorchester. We raffled off tickets for this event to interested music fans and also awarded them to charitable organisations. The gala celebration, at which the legendary Leipzig-based orchestra performed works and film music in the style of the Boston Pops Orchestra, was our way of saying a big thank you to everyone in the region. “We’ve found a new home here in Leipzig. We are proud not only to be a major global logistics hub, but also one of the biggest economic drivers in the region,” said Markus Otto, chairman of the management board of European Air Transport Leipzig GmbH.
To ensure a harmonious coexistence and successful growth in the region, strong partners in politics, business and local authorities are needed. We have found all of those in Leipzig, which is why we invited our partners to an official ceremony that was likewise held in the Gewandhaus zu Leipzig concert hall. ‘We would like to thank the local community for welcoming us as neighbors, for all the support over the past years, and for helping us to become an integral part of the region, together with our partners,’ said Ralph Wondrak, chairman of the management board of DHL Hub Leipzig GmbH. — Madlen Wolf
