From the Lecture Hall to the LEJ Hub
Did you know? More than 200 students are working at the LEJ Hub. One of them was Thomas from the team Programs & Strategy.
"I studied Logistics & Air Traffic Management in Bernburg for a master's degree. What could be more obvious than an internship at a cargo airport? Of course, the DHL Hub Leipzig was at the top of my list."
Thomas started almost two years ago as an intern at Programs and Strategy. He still remembers his first impressions well: "I had worked in other companies before, but the LEJ Hub is something very special. The aircraft, the processes in the sorting hall and the size of our hub alone – that's really impressive."
Already during his internship, he was actively involved in projects, such as the improvement of the LEJ IT infrastructure or the creation of a tool that was used in the planning of the security check at Terminal 1. "In our team, we are in close contact with the other departments and colleagues of the DHL Group. So a lot of coordination work and a change compared to studying in a university," laughs Thomas.
Thomas was so enthusiastic about the internship at the Hub that he also wrote his thesis here. "I have been working on the storage of bond goods and how processing can be made more automated and thus more efficient in the future. First of all, in theory, but I hope that my ideas will help to improve the processes at our hub."
But also the LEJ practice should not be missing. That's why he also worked as a part-time job on weekends in the repack area. "Of course, the week was full. But it gave me even better insights into our processes that I wouldn't have gotten otherwise."
This effort has paid off. Not only for his master's thesis, but also for his career path at the LEJ Hub. Thomas has been a permanent part of the Programs & Strategy team in the Infrastructure & Facility department for six months now.
Through the insights gained as a student at the hub, both at the desk and in the sorting hall, Thomas has learned a lot for his current position. "I got a good overview of our processes. For example, how are coordination carried out, which colleagues are responsible for which areas or what are the workflows in operations. I'm really grateful for these experiences," says Thomas, summing up his time as a student at the LEJ Hub.
For students, the LEJ Hub offers various options. In addition to their studies, they can work in sorting on weekends, for example, or as interns in the specialist departments. You can find all vacancies on the careers website.
