Interview with an Aviation Lover
In the case of Justin Schull from Halle, two passions meet: airplanes and photography. You can admire the result of this combination at regular intervals on our social media channels. But today it's not about planes, it's about Justin.
Justin Schull is one of our Aviation Lovers. He regularly sends us photographs of DHL planes. As an aviation fan, one of his favorite leisure activities is to drive to Leipzig Airport and photograph airplanes. Today he answers questions about his hobby.
How does your passion for airplanes express itself?
I've always found airplanes interesting and have taken every opportunity to experience them up close. I am now regularly at the airport and do plane spotting. Unfortunately not as often as I would like. I only do it as a hobby alongside my training. But I can be found at the airport with my camera 1-2 times a week.
What fascinates you about it?
Airplanes have something fascinating for me because of their size alone. I always find the start and loading particularly impressive. That's just beautiful to look at. I don't just like to observe that: when I fly myself, those are the moments I look forward to the most.
So how did the cooperation with the DHL hub in Leipzig come about?
I've been following your social media channels for a long time and this is how I became aware of a competition where pictures of airplanes were sought. At that time I already had a few DHL planes in front of my lens and was therefore able to take part in them without any problems.
I often sent pictures to the social media team just for fun, and they were always very happy and published the photos. Of course, that makes me proud when I know that so many people now see and like my pictures.
And that still motivates you to make your pictures available?
Yes, exactly. The plane spotter scene is not only here in the region, but throughout Germany and worldwide. I like the thought that other spotters might go to the airport to see one or the other plane live. And regardless of that, I'm happy when I can convey my fascination to other people.
Why exactly DHL machines?
The DHL aircraft in particular always offer a lot of variety. Just because of the different types, but also because of the special paint finishes, such as the colorful Pride plane. It's always fun to photograph them. - Julia Ende
