Leipzig Is Where the Music Plays
Surprise concert for our DHL everyday heroes and a visit of Gewandhaus Kapellmeister Andris Nelsons
In the beginning of December an unusual welcome committee was waiting for our colleagues before the start of their shift. In front of the main entrances, the brass ensemble of the Gewandhaus Orchestra welcomed our DHL everyday heroes. The world-famous musicians played a Christmas surprise concert for them. Our arriving colleagues listened happily and thanked the musicians with enthusiastic applause. Ralph Wondrak, Managing Director at the DHL Hub Leipzig, observed the scene and was satisfied. “We actually wanted to surprise our more than 6,000 colleagues here at the DHL Hub Leipzig with a Christmas market,” he says. This is not possible this year due to Corona. Therefore we have come up with an alternative musical program together with the Gewandhaus Orchestra.

Please note, some filming took place before Covid-19.
It was no coincidence that the top musicians of the Gewandhaus Orchestra played at the DHL hub. DHL has been transporting stage equipment and instruments around the world for the orchestra since 2009. We ensure that music stands, baton and double bass arrive undamaged and on time around the world. And like an orchestra, this only works with precision, passion and teamwork. A few days after the Christmas surprise concerts, Gewandhaus Kapellmeister Andris Nelsons and his orchestra showed during a visit at the hub how close the connection is between logistics and music. For one night, the international star conducted our Leipzig DHL symphony consisting of planes, sorting belts and parcels. - Stefan Macourek
