SERIES: Our employees are as diverse as their volunteer activities

Supporting the region and the environment is a big part of our corporate culture. In cooperation with Leipzig Zoo, employees at the DHL hub in Leipzig have actively helped to plant new trees.

Every year, thousands of colleagues get involved in volunteering projects around the world, supporting social initiatives, helping the environment, and doing good. In the first part of this two-part blog series, you have already read about how our employees get involved in their free time. But the LEJ Hub also gives employees the opportunity to get involved in projects. This takes place as part of the Global Volunteer Days.

Social commitment is a high priority for the LEJ Hub and our employees. This is why we regularly support local projects and initiatives in which employees can participate. On 14 March, the donation campaign "With 100,000 trees we become forest champions" took place for more trees in Germany, which was launched by Leipzig Zoo and the German Football Association as part of UEFA Euro 2024.

Piece by piece, each young tree is given a new habitat and the region becomes greener.

Doing something good sustainably

More than twenty dedicated employees from the DHL hub in Leipzig were there on Thursday, including Ivonne. She has been working at the LEJ hub for five years and currently works in the Import Production department in Special Clearance. She helped plant trees because supporting the region is important to her.

"I enjoy taking part in activities like this. I like the idea of walking through the growing forest in twenty years' time and saying: I helped with this," she says as she is about to dig the next spadesful of soil to give life to another young tree.

Win-win: supporting the region and strengthening teamwork

Steve is also taking part in the tree planting today with his technical team. He is the Vice President Technical at the hub and therefore responsible for the systems technology available in the terminal and everything that travels around the apron. He thinks it's good to support the region and help with projects like this. That's why he seized the opportunity and motivated his team to lend a hand on this day.

"I see the tree planting campaign as a good opportunity to strengthen team cohesion and boost team spirit. This not only has a positive effect on the work we do together, but also leaves us with a good feeling of having done something helpful for the region." He and his team have been taking part in the Global Volunteer Days for several years, most recently helping to maintain the bee meadow.
