STRIKE AMONG THE FINNISH DOCK WORKERS
February 15, 2023
Finnish Transport Workers’ Union AKT has started a strike for the stevedoring sector at all Finnish ports as of February 15, 6 a.m., until further notice. In addition, strikes in road haulage, tank truck and oil product, and forwarding warehouse terminal sectors have started at the same time. These strikes concern part of the companies operating in these industries and continue until February 21 or 22.
The stevedoring strike significantly reduces the transport capacity to / from Finland by sea. DHL Freight strives to arrange a limited amount of transports by road using special arrangements and routes available at the time, at an additional cost. We would like to emphasize that capacity is limited on all routes ja thus the international road transport options are limited as well. Normal transport schedules don't apply.
During the industrial action no driverless units are loaded on board or unloaded from ships. Thus only modules with tractor and driver are currently allowed. DHL Freight will apply strike surcharges to import and export loadings to and from Finland and inform its customers separately thereof.
If the PAU support action begins, terminals and groupage pickups and deliveries used by DHL Freight would be subject to extensive industrial actions, which would cause additional delays.
DHL will do its utmost to minimize the delays to our customers’ shipments. However, if the sympathy actions proceed in the announced scale it is obvious that delays cannot be avoided.
As the situation may change very quickly, please check the latest status from Customer Service when making a new transport booking.
DHL Freight will also continue to monitor the situation closely and we publish updates, if necessary, through news articles on our web pages, among others.
