Zalando, Europe’s leading online fashion and lifestyle platform, has signed a partnership agreement with DHL Supply Chain Iberia to run the operation of Zalando’s first logistics site in Spain, located in Illescas, Toledo. DHL Supply Chain Iberia will be in charge of the hiring process for the logistics center, which will create around 600 positions in the long term. Thanks to this site, Zalando will be able to reduce delivery times for Spanish customers by 1-1.5 days.
Announced at the beginning of the year, Zalando’s first logistics site in Spain will improve the company’s convenience offering and unlock future customer growth in the Spanish region. With more than 37,500 square meters, it has been developed by GLP, investor and developer of logistics warehouses and distribution parks. Operations are expected to start by March 2021. The site also qualifies for the BREEAM “Very Good” sustainability certification.
“Building up our logistics capabilities in Spain is an important and exciting prospect for us. Spain is the fifth biggest fashion market in Europe, with immense fashion credibility through its global and local fashion brands. We’re happy that as well as having access to our great assortment, our Spanish customers will now also benefit from improved delivery times. DHL Supply Chain is one of our long-standing partners, and we are looking forward to working with them as they operate the site and set up a strong team,” says Jan Bartels, Senior Vice President Customer Fulfillment at Zalando.
“We are thrilled that Zalando, one of Europe’s leaders in online fashion, has decided to partner with us. Undoubtedly, online commerce is growing in our country and our extensive experience in logistics for this ever-changing area, with unexpected peaks in demand, will add value to Zalando. At DHL, we have methods and protocols that, in a very short time, allow us to make supply chains more flexible and adapt them to customer needs and expectations, providing greater efficiency in critical areas and optimizing the delivery pace,” says Roberto Pascual, General Director of DHL Supply Chain Iberia.
The site location is well-situated in the center of the country, less than 40 kilometers away from Madrid. Additional factors in choosing the location have been the extensive road network connecting the logistics site with mainland Spain, as well as the workforce potential.
With the opening of this site in March 2021, Zalando further strengthens its logistics network of twelve centers across six European markets.
