DHL and Michelin Drive Toward a Sustainable Future with Electric Prime Mover in Thailand

Press Release: Bangkok, 18 March 2025

This partnership marks a key milestone in their commitment to a sustainable, net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

DHL Supply Chain Thailand, the global leader in contract logistics, has partnered with Michelin, world-leading manufacturer of life-changing composites and experiences, to launch an electric prime mover. This marks a significant milestone in their shared commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. As part of this collaboration, DHL will deploy a 100% clean energy electric vehicle fitted with MICHELIN X® Multi™ Z2 and MICHELIN X Multi D+ to transport raw materials between Michelin’s factories, reducing carbon emissions by approximately 195 metric tons per year.

The electric prime mover will operate on two key routes: Phra Pradaeng – Nong Kae and Phra Pradaeng – Laem Chabang. It can travel up to 350 kilometers on a single charge, taking just two hours to fully recharge. With zero tailpipe emissions and minimal noise pollution, this transport solution aligns with both companies’ broader environmental goals.

Steve Walker, CEO of DHL Supply Chain Thailand Cluster, emphasized the strategic importance of the collaboration, “In line with our Green Transport Policy, we are always looking to electrify our transport fleet within our supply chain and finding more sustainable ways to operate. Hence, we are excited that Michelin is joining this journey with us to support low and zero carbon road transportation. Introducing our first electric prime mover with them is a crucial step in accelerating decarbonization efforts.”

“With our expertise in automotive supply chain management and electric vehicles, DHL Supply Chain is committed to supporting Michelin in its mission to reduce carbon emissions and achieve its sustainability goals. Innovation is at the heart of our operations, and we will continue to develop solutions that shape a sustainable future for logistics with our customers.”

Ahmadreza Bahrami, Vice President, Supply Chain & Logistics, Michelin Asia Pacific, said, “At Michelin, sustainability is not just a vision – it is our action plan. Our commitment to integrating 100 per cent recycled and renewable materials in our tires by 2050 is a testament to our leadership in sustainable mobility. We are accelerating the transition to cleaner transportation while maintaining the highest performance standards through innovation and collaboration, such as this partnership with DHL. Together, we are shaping a future where mobility is both efficient and environmentally responsible."

DHL’s advanced Connected Control Tower will oversee the operations of the electric prime mover, utilizing technology including the Paragon Route Optimization System, Transport Management System, Telematics, and DHL’s MySupplyChain digital platform. These integrated systems, combined with AI-powered onboard cameras, provide real-time incident alerts to DHL’s tracking team, ensuring maximum efficiency and safety. Additionally, DHL’s electric vehicle drivers will undergo specialized training to prioritize safety.

Michelin, a leader in sustainable mobility, continues to pioneer solutions to reduce environmental impact through its dedication to its All-Sustainable Strategy: People X Profit X Planet. The company is committed to integrating 100% recycled and renewable materials in its tires by 2050, ensuring that all Michelin tires will be fully sustainable. As a technological innovator in electric vehicle tires, Michelin remains a crucial player in transport decarbonization.

This partnership between DHL and Michelin signifies a pivotal step toward a sustainable future, setting a benchmark for sustainability in Thailand’s logistics and automotive industries. It also forms part of the recent memorandum of understanding (MOU) between DHL and Michelin to develop products and services that improve sustainability, safety, and circularity in their global and local operations.
