Surcharge Policies

DHL eCommerce utilizes an indexed fuel surcharge that is adjusted monthly, based upon the fuel prices published monthly by the U.S. Department of Energy. We also assess a delivery area surcharge (DAS) for packages delivered to certain ZIP Codes in the United States and a peak surcharge for packages sent during specified peak timeframes. Surcharges may differ by product. Please see additional details below for specifics on these surcharges.

Fuel Surcharge

Changes to the surcharge will continue to be effective the first day of each month.

Domestic Products

These terms apply to:

  • Domestic Expedited Max
  • Expedited and Ground parcel and mail products

The fuel surcharge calculation is linked to the monthly rounded average of the national U.S. On-Highway average price for a gallon of diesel fuel as published by the U.S. Department of Energy. DHL eCommerce applies the monthly rounded average from the period two months prior to calculate the applicable fuel surcharge percentage. For instance, the January 2024 fuel surcharge would be based on the U.S. On-Highway monthly rounded average from November 2023.

International Products

These terms apply to:

  • All International mail and parcel products

The fuel surcharge calculation is linked to the monthly rounded average of the price for a gallon of kerosene-type jet fuel as published by the U.S. Department of Energy using the U.S. Gulf Coast (USGC) prices for kerosene-type jet fuel. DHL eCommerce applies the monthly rounded average from the period two months prior to calculate the applicable fuel surcharge. For example, the January 2024 fuel surcharge as calculated by DHL eCommerce was based on the monthly rounded average from November 2023.

To view the current USGC prices for kerosene-type jet fuel, visit the U.S. Jet Fuel page.

Additional Terms

Fuel surcharges, associated trigger points and basis for calculation are subject to change without notice. The fuel surcharges are applicable to the fuel price ranges shown. If the applicable fuel price(s) published by the U.S. Department of Energy change beyond the displayed DHL eCommerce fuel surcharge table ranges, the tables will be expanded accordingly.
