Tracking decarbonization with DHL’s GoGreen Dashboard

TRACKING DECARBONIZATION WITH DHL'S GOGREEN DASHBOARD

Carbon disclosure is a vital step towards positive climate action. GoGreen Plus and DHL’s emissions report help businesses to reduce their carbon footprint in a measurable and visible way.

Reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is crucial in our fight against climate change. Corporations must urgently address their carbon footprint across their supply chain to achieve ambitious sustainability goals. Ensuring the visibility of GHG emissions is key. Let’s explore this sustainable business trend and the green logistics solutions offered by DHL Express.

COMPANIES URGED TO CALCULATE AND REPORT GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS

Under the Japanese government’s Law on the Promotion of Measures to Combat Global Warming, certain large GHG emitters are required to calculate and disclose their GHG emissions to the government.

The scope of carbon emissions includes emissions in daily operations, as well as across the entire supply chain. Today, corporations must be equipped to measure and transparently report their supply chain emissions.

The International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), an independent international body that developed the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards for corporate reporting, requires entities to disclose information about all sustainability-related risks and opportunities throughout their value chain, including supply chain and transportation activities.

The draft of the SSBJ, the Japanese version of the ISSB, will require Japan-based companies to disclose their supply chain emissions as early as the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027.

In addition, the Science Based Targets (SBTi) that many companies are now adopting, requires them to set reduction targets consistent with the Paris Agreement's 1.5°C target level, also including supply chain emissions.

SUSTAINABLE LOGISTICS SOLUTIONS FOR YOUR DECARBONIZATION GOALS

In 2023, DHL Express launched GoGreen Plus, an industry-leading sustainable shipping service that enables shippers to reduce their carbon emissions through carbon insetting. GHG, comprising of carbon dioxide (CO2) and equivalent gas (CO2e) emissions, are reduced with the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in DHL’s aviation network. This service has been fully implemented in Japan since July 2023.

Recently, to further empower shippers to achieve their emissions goals, all customers shipping with DHL Express* can receive a comprehensive emissions report that visualizes their actual Scope 3 GHG emissions from their international shipping activities via DHL Express.

Customers can obtain detailed carbon emissions data per shipment and trade lane, over certain periods of time, enabling them to determine progress and improvement points towards achieving their sustainability goals.
