SANOFI ITALY HAS CHOSEN DHL SUPPLY CHAIN'S NEW LOGISTICS AND TRANSPORT SERVICE DEDICATED TO BIOPHARMA PRODUCTS, WITH A HIGH DIGITAL AND “GREEN” COMPONENT
Press Release: Milan, April 11th 2022
- 2-8°C "end2end" service with integrated digital systems and real-time temperature monitoring
- Innovative tracking on the temperature of the individual package
- No longer use of isothermal packaging, but preference for a more sustainable logistics
- New technologies enabling "precision logistics" dedicated to extremely temperature-sensitive and high-value products
DHL Supply Chain, a DHL Group company specialized in the management of integrated logistics services for businesses, is extending its logistics services dedicated to the management of products that require a controlled temperature of 2/8°C throughout all phases of the logistics process, to Sanofi, one of the leading industrial players in the pharmaceutical sector with a major presence in Italy.
An innovative and virtuous collaboration under a single Control Tower for the storage services of the BioPharma Hub and the transport services of the BioPharma Network.
In March 2021, DHL Supply Chain inaugurated the BioPharma Hub: a 6,000 square meter "cold warehouse" dedicated to the logistics of biotech drugs and innovative therapies. An all-round management of the biotechnological product, from the moment it enters the plant to the moment it is handed over for the transport phase, in an environment with a constant temperature range of 2/8°C and which also integrates innovative technologies - such as the serialization - and solutions for the management of multi-temperature situations (down to -20°C and -80°C) for vaccines and frontier therapies.
The BioPharma Network completes the range of the end2end services: it is dedicated to the transport and delivery of biotech drugs. Real-time tracking and monitoring of the temperature of each individual package throughout the distribution process and unique IT governance overseen by a team of experts guarantee that the temperature is maintained in the 2-8°C range, even allowing the safe removal of disposable isothermal packaging. This is a major benefit in terms of environmental impact and will result in a reduction of around 150 tons of CO2 per year when fully operational.
"The trust that comes from a Customer such as Sanofi, one of the most important and technologically advanced pharmaceutical groups in the world, confirms that we have achieved the goals of innovation that are the basis of our major investments in the BioPharma Hub and, more recently, in the BioPharma Network - says Antonio Lombardo, President and CEO of DHL Supply Chain -. The "cold chain end2end" service we offer to Sanofi not only integrates storage and transport services under a single Control Tower, but also ensures the use of a high digital component and reduces CO2 emissions. This is the future: integrated, "precision" Biotech logistics, ability to guarantee to medical professionals and patients the safety of the biotech drug throughout the supply chain".
At the Settala site, where Sanofi has been a Customer for more than a decade, DHL manages all products destined for all distribution channels in Italy, for a total of approximately 285,000 shipments per year.
