The advantages of insuring your shipment or extending coverage to your document with DHL Express.
DHL takes the utmost care in handling your Valuable shipments and Documents. Nevertheless, unexpected accidents can occur in international air transport.
In the event of loss or damage to your shipments or documents, our compensation is limited by our terms and conditions of carriage. DHL offers Shipment Insurance and Extended Liability as optional services available to all customers. If you feel that the normal compensation is not enough, you can take advantage of DHL Express's Shipment Insurance or Extended Liability.
Shipment Insurance
All you have to do to insure your shipment is to opt for it in the ‘Protect Your Shipment’ box in the MY DHL+ shipping tool and indicate the value to be covered – this should be the same as the value of the shipment, which should be reflected on your invoice as well.
For an additional charge of insuring your shipment is JPY 2,500 or 1.20% of the insured value if higher(non-taxable). The insurance covers the actual value of your shipment in the unlikely event that it gets damaged or lost in our care.
Extended liability for documents
All you have to do to Extended Liability your document is to opt for it in the ‘Protect Your Shipment’ box in the MY DHL+ shipping tool. (Maximum Shipment weight up to 18 kg)
For an additional charge of JPY 800 (non-taxable), a flat rate of JPY 80,000 is compensated in the event of damage or loss of documents. DHL Express is the only courier that offers compensation beyond what is stipulated in the terms and conditions for documents.
Limitations & Exclusions
- Loss or damage or expense due to delay
- Damage due to customs or political factors
- Damage due to radiation, war, etc.
- Damage caused by the inherent nature of the shipment
- Damage caused by packing
- Damage to packaging only
- Damage not caused by accident
- Indirect damage
