There are a few reasons for a shipment to be held by customs.

Shipment Release Document and Payment FAQ

Proof of payment is any document that serves as evidence of having paid for a product or service. It can be in the form of receipts, credit card or bank statements, or order confirmation emails to confirm the amount paid.

To obtain proof of payment, you can access it through your online banking system or directly from your bank.

Customs need proof of payment for duties and taxes to release goods to DHL Express before delivery to the customer.

In terms of customs duty and tax, we need to have the proof of payment mentioned payment done to release the goods to DHL before delivery to the customer.

If your shipment is on hold, it could be because:

  • the receiver isn't home

  • there's a clearance delay

  • incomplete contact details

  • missing paperwork for Customs

  • delays due to weather or flights.

Make sure all paperwork especially air waybill and invoice has accurate sender and receiver details, and ensure the packaging is in good condition.

If your shipment is on hold for payment, it means there are pending duty and tax payments from the customer. 

You need to make the payment and provide proof of payment for delivery arrangements.

"Released from Customs" means your shipment has been cleared by Customs at the destination gateway and is ready to move from the gateway to the service centre.

This status indicates progress in the customs clearance process, such as physical inspection or document submissions. The shipment is still in progress but has not been cleared yet.
