DHL Express opens 15th service center in Thailand, strengthening its position as global trade enabler

Bangkok, Thailand, January 20, 2025: DHL Express, the world’s leading international express service provider, has announced the opening of its new service center in Thepharak, Samut Prakarn, Thailand. This addition marks the 15th service center operated by DHL Express in the country, reinforcing the company’s commitment to providing Thai customers with fast and reliable cross-border shipment through the DHL global network.

The new Thepharak service center spans 2,462 square meters of warehousing and office space, making it one of the largest DHL Express service centers in Thailand. Its strategic location near Suvarnabhumi Airport offers shorter transit time to and from the DHL Bangkok Hub, where 85 dedicated flights operate weekly, connecting Thailand to 220 countries and territories worldwide.

Commitment to facilitating global trade growth

"The opening of our new Thepharak service center is a testament to our ongoing efforts to enhance our service capabilities and support the growing enterprise and e-commerce shipment volumes between Thailand and the rest of the world," said Herbert Vongpusanachai, Managing Director of DHL Express Thailand and Head of Indochina. "This facility not only strengthens our network but also underscores our commitment to sustainability and innovation in logistics."

According to the DHL Global Connectedness Tracker, international trade remains a central pillar of the world economy. In 2023, 21% of the value of all goods and services produced was traded internationally, just slightly shy of the all-time high of 22% . DHL Express saw 6% more international shipments moving between Asia Pacific and other continents through its network, comparing the first nine months of 2023 and 2024.

In addition to this new opening, DHL Express Thailand recently relocated a service center from Don Muang, Bangkok to Lamlukka, Pathumthani to better facilitate international logistics activities for local enterprises, SMEs and individual shippers in the area. This demonstrates the company's dedication to continuously improve its service infrastructure to meet customer needs.

Enhanced capabilities responding to growth demand

Thailand stands out as a prime candidate for companies looking to diversify manufacturing bases to reduce the impact of supply chain disruptions. Strategically located around several industrial estates, the Thepharak service center is well-positioned to support international businesses to benefit from geographic tailwinds and e-commerce.

The Thepharak service center is equipped with an advanced dual-view X-ray inspection system and  sorting and distribution stations to handle both conveyable shipments (weighting below 25 kg) and heavyweight shipments (more than 100 kg). The maximum handling capability is 900 shipments per hour at its peak. The facility also offers a convenient service point for customer drop off and pick up.

The Thepharak service center will serve customers in Bangkok zones including Phra Khanong and Bang Na, as well as Samut Prakarn's industrial and residential zones including Muang Samut Prakarn, Thepharak, Samrong Nuer, Bang Muang, and Bang Pu.

Green logistics of choice

The Thepharak service center was constructed as part of DHL Group's strategy, reflecting its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint. The facility is equipped with carbon-neutral building measures including smart meters, LED lighting and solar panels for sustainable electricity generation. The center has also prepared charging stations for when electric vehicle deployment comes in place in the future.

To date, DHL Express has electrified 21% of its delivery fleet with more than 50 electric vehicles for first and last mile deliveries in Thailand.

DHL Group aims to reduce logistics-related greenhouse gas emissions (GHG emissions) to below 29 million tons of CO2e by 2030.
