1969

1969

Dalsey, Hillblom, and Lynn begin emergency transportation service between San Francisco and Honolulu.

1971~

Sequential expansion of network to Asia, Europe, and Latin America.

1972

1972

Open an office in Takanawa, Tokyo as the Japan branch of the DHL Group.

1983

Open a hub (international distribution center) in Cincinnati, USA.

1985

Open the latest hub in Brussels to handle more than 165,000 shipments overnight.

1989

1989

Headquarters building completes and relocates to Higashi Shinagawa, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo.

1991

Licensed by the Ministry of Transportation as the first international parcel delivery service (Type II user transportation business), becoming the first "certified" international parcel delivery company in Japan.

1994

1994

New gateway and customer service center facilities open in Athens, Osaka, Sydney and other cities. A large new distribution center opens in Bahrain, and the Osaka Operation Center in Namiyoke, Minato-ku, Osaka begins operations.

New Asian Network is established, enabling next day morning delivery from Japan to four major Asian cities.

2002

DPWN Group becomes a 100% shareholder of DHL. Tokyo Distribution Center (TDC), the largest logistics facility in Asia Pacific is opened.

2003

DHL launches a service to deliver overseas by 9:00 a.m. or noon. It is the prototype of DHL EXPRESS 9:00/12:00.

Open DHL Chubu International Airport Gateway, the third gateway facility in Japan.

2008

  • Main European hub relocates from Brussels to Leipzig to create the latest, environmentally friendly hub.

  • Hong Kong Central Asia Hub expands to become the first large-scale automated express hub in Asia Pacific.

DHL Go Green, an environmentally friendly and carbon-neutral shipping service, launches in Japan.

2010

DHL Medical Express Service Launches to Meet Urgent International Transport Needs for Medical Supplies, Medical Equipment and Specimens for Laboratory Testing.

2011

  • Launch DHL Jetline to load urgent requests on the earliest possible flight.
  • Begin using three large jets with a payload of 100 tons to strengthen the air network in Asia.

  • DHL express North Asia Hub opens at Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

Open DHL Tokyo Gateway and Minato Service Center, one of the world's largest gateways, in Shin-Kiba, Koto-ku, Tokyo.

DHL Osaka Distribution Center is established in Sakai City, Osaka.

DHL celebrates its 50th Anniversary of service in Japan.
