Skicka Grönt

100% fossil free transport - which drives development

The concept is simple. You as a customer buy Skicka Grönt for your shipment and reduce the emission of carbon dioxide all the way from pickup to recipient. The cost goes directly to Skicka Grönt transporters' additional costs for vehicles and fuels that meet Fossil-free Sweden's criteria.

When you, as a customer, book Skicka Grönt, you actively effect development and control your own reduction in emissions, and we make sure to carry out the corresponding fossil-free transports.

We have chosen that Skicka Grönt always are included for parcels between private individuals and for the e-commerce service Parcel Connect. So when these services are selected, it automatically becomes fossil-free shipping. As a private individual, you can also add Skicka Grönt in our app when you are the recipient of a home delivery.

What Is Required from a Skicka Grönt Vehicle

  • The purchase of a vehicle or fuel must be more expensive than a regular transport solution, the haulage company must be able to show its additional cost for the vehicle.
  • The vehicle must reduce fossil emissions by at least 70 percent (electricity, 100 percent biogas and HVO100)
  • An agreement needs to be made with the haulage company of the vehicle in order to obtain compensation for the additional cost
  • The haulage company reports the transport work performed for vehicles every month

Follow-up of vehicles and customers' orders are matched every month to ensure that we carry out at least as many fossil-free tonne-kilometres as Skicka Grönt's customers have ordered. Annual audits of external third-party auditor are carried out of the Skicka Grönt.

At DHL Freight, we ensure that Skicka Grönt transporters fulfill their part of the contract, that the entire system is externally audited and produces emission reports that show your reductions.

For Those Wondering about GoGreen Plus

Skicka Grönt is a so-called Book and Claim solution unique to DHL Freight Sweden. It is equivalent to the GoGreen Plus Premium service, which is the global insetting solution that is possible in all other DHL divisions. The GoGreen Plus Service Charge is a 10 percent reduction that has been introduced on some international services across Europe. GoGreen Plus Service Charge can be opted out or exchanged for a 100 percent reduction with Skicka Grönt, then contact your sales contact or customer service.

Partnership with Volvo

"The partnership with Volvo trucks helps DHL Freight play an even greated role in the transition to sustainable alternatives and in another important proof point for our long-term strategy towards fossil free transport."

Robert Zander, CEO DHL Freight Nordics & Baltics

Our Strategy in DHL Freight Sweden

We want to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and switch to fossil-free transport (as defined by Fossil Free Sweden). As early as 2008, DHL adopted a global environmental goal of reducing fossil carbon dioxide emissions by 30% per tonne-kilometer by 2020. Sweden reached that level in 2016. Way ahead of schedule. We track this key figure [CO2 e WtW/tonne-km] over time and it is also available in customers' emissions reports as this also captures the efficiency of groupage, blending of renewable fuels according to the reduction obligation, intermodal transport by rail, and more.

At DHL Freight, we focus on increasing the share of renewable fuels, electric vehicles in urban areas and reaching the standard of climate-neutral buildings in our own new construction. Globally, the target is at least 30% renewable fuel as a whole, but the possibilities vary for different countries in Europe.

Our Vehicles

Did you know that vehicles with a leaf on them run on either electricity or biogas? Vehicles that have the fuel HVO100 in the tank are not branded with this leaf.

Every year in Sweden, we follow up our own haulage company and all DHL carriers through our unique follow-up process TKM – the carriers' quality and environment. It includes requirements in the areas of the environment, road safety, work environment, supplier code of conduct, and control of legal compliance and cargo safety both at company level and vehicle level.

The process includes an audit part, which means that no matter where in DHL Freight's Swedish transport network your goods are located, the carriers maintain a guaranteed approved level. It also allows us to update the calculation factors to customers' emission reports as well as the opportunity to follow our trend over time to reduce the total carbon footprint.

Here is a snapshot in 2023 – the vehicles are replaced continuously, but follow-up is done once a year:
