Duties and Taxes
Customs/Import Duties are imposed on some goods that are imported or moved across a political boundary. Import duties are imposed with the aim of raising revenues and protect local producers/markets in the country of destination.
The system has been assigned by the World Customs Organisation and continues to evolve.
Dutiable goods are given a classification code that is known as the Harmonised System Code.
The Harmonised System Code is used to calculate the duties and taxes payable.
Duties and Taxes are calculated as a percentage of the customs value of the goods.
- The payment of Duties and Taxes are typically the responsibility of the receiver.
